John Campbell Barr, age 87 of Heritage Shores in Bridgeville DE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Summit NJ and raised in Springfield NJ, the son of the late John Callahan Barr and Kathryn El Read Obituary
John was kind, funny, devoted to family and always called my daughter Lael, "Joan". (Just to bust her little chops.)
I loved John. He hired me for a job I couldn't do, and sent me to the recruiter for the Nat'l Guard in Sea Girt... much to their dismay.
What a great guy, neighbor, friend, mentor, and family man. Always jolly and positive.
God Bless all you guys. Hope he sees my parents where he for sure is going...

John was my Big Brother.Growing up he was the shy skinny kid with freckles. I use to have to fight all his battles for him. The most wonderful memory was when he told his friend Edward to go skate with his little sister and 63 years later we were still together.Ed and I shared so many happy times with him and his lovely wife Francoise who is like a sister to me. John Barr was a legend in our industry when he worked for Clayton Block selling Allan Block. He knew everyone and had stories to share with all in his entertaining and enthusiastic style. His large personality and passion for life and friends was a joy to be around. We are all so thankful to have known John and Francoise. Condolences from his Allan Block Family.
I was so happy to finally meet John and his lovely wife, last year. As I read the tributes, I can really tell how John impacted so many lives. The love he shared with his family, friends and community, will be greatly missed. God Speed, John.
Mr. Barr was an outstanding gentleman. I had the opportunity to work with him when he waws a member of the Woodbridge School District’s Board of Education. He was always actively engaged with the staff and particularly with the students. He was always interested in what the students were doing and how they were doing. He consistently asked what was needed to improve the education “his” students were receiving. He was a regular at all of the school events ranging from sports to drama to anything else that involved the students. Outside of his role as a board member, he was funny, engaging and just an overall great guy. His presence will be missed. My sincere condolences to his family.
John will be remembered always for his intelligence, great sense of humor and his kindness to all.
Bruce and I were so sorry to learn of John’s passing. We enjoyed listening to his many stories. In 2014 DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) asked me to organize a commemorative event for Vietnam veterans. It was a huge success due to John’s help and guidance through the Military Club.
Mr. Barr was a tremendous man who had so many experiences in life and loved sharing the stories of his life. The Woodbridge School District was better because of him and I am a better man for having known him.
