Joanne Marie Rodgers' Obituary
Joanne Marie Rodgers, age 75, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Ridley Park, PA, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes, DE. She was born on June 7, 1940 in Phoenixville, PA, daughter of the late John W. and Anne M. (Samson) Stevens.
Mrs. Rodgers enjoyed a lengthy career as a hairdresser. She was also an Avon sales representative for 25 years and worked at Peebles for over 10 years. She was very devoted to her family. She loved tending to the plants and flowers in and around her house. She loved going shopping, spending the day at the beach or on the boat with her family, playing bocce or walking with her friends, or walking her dog. She was a member of the Angola by the Bay Woman's Club where she enjoyed socializing with the neighbors and her close friends. She was a proponent of the Animal Humane Society as she had a very soft spot in her heart for animals, especially dogs. Her dog Chance was a rescue dog.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rodgers was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore J. Rodgers, Jr. on January 12, 2012; a son, Christopher Joseph Rodgers and a daughter, Kelley Anne Rodgers both of whom passed away shortly after birth, and a sister, Patricia McBride who recently passed away. She is survived by her son, Theodore J. Rodgers and his wife, Jodi E. of Port Matilda, PA; two grandchildren: Christopher John and Caitlyn Elise Rodgers both of Port Matilda, PA; one brother, John Stevens and his wife Carolyn (Kuhn) of Snohomish, WA; and many nieces, nephews and her loyal canine companion, Chance.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
Friends may also visit on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Rodgers' memory to St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958 or the SPCA, 22918 DuPont Boulevard, Georgetown, DE 19947.
