Joan Frances Schoch's Obituary
Joan “Jan” Frances (Rafferty) Schoch of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, died peacefully and surrounded by family on the evening of June 20, 2022, in Lewes, Delaware, at the age of 92. Born into a large family in DuBois, Pennsylvania, on August 19, 1929, Jan’s residence for the last two decades had been in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She was predeceased by Norman J. Schoch, her husband of sixty-two years. Jan was a petite lady but leaves behind a large family of four children, two daughters-in-law, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as her brother, Lawrence “Buck” Rafferty of DuBois, Pennsylvania.
Jan loved walking the beach. She loved being with family and talking about old times; she loved to laugh (especially if someone tripped). She was sentimental towards home, towards streets or even trees that held special memories. She used the same spoon to stir her coffee every day for nearly fifty years. She played the piano. She was easy going and simple in her tastes. If you were kind, that’s really all that mattered, you were in. A good meal, a story, a warm sweater, a fresh donut, a nice haircut. These were the things that made up who she was. You would have liked her. And if you cared about these things, she would have liked you too. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held for Jan at a future date in DuBois, Pennsylvania, where her heart always was.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jan’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity to which Jan contributed for years (https://www.stjude.org/give.html).
Please sign the Jan's virtual guestbook located on the tribute page.
