Joan L. Moore's Obituary
Joan L. Moore age 92 of Lewes, DE passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at her late residence. She was born on August 29, 1932, in Bridgeton, NJ, daughter of the late Albert and Mae Ritter Dorman. Mrs. Moore was also preceded in death by her husband Harry A. Moore in 2011, a brother Ernest Dorman in 2007, sisters Evelyn Brumbaugh in 2007 and Elizabeth Thomas, her nephews Joshua Alan Thomas in 1985 and Frank D. Brumbaugh in 2012, her niece Sue Dorman Wright in 2007, her sisters-in-law Doris Betts Dorman in 2009 and Doris Moore Sharp in1998 and her brother-in-law Frank J. Brumbaugh in 2012.
She was a graduate of Lewes High School, Class of 1950. During high school she worked at the 5 & 10 store on the board walk in Rehoboth Beach and for her father from 1948-1952. Her later endeavors, which involved bookkeeping and payroll work would include working for Sportcraft in Lewes from 1952-1954; as a wife and mother from 1954 to 1964; Tunnell & Raysor Law Firm from 1964 to 1966; Fish Products Co. from 1966 to 1974; Anderson-Stokes and then Long & Foster Realtors from 1974 to 1996; and for Parsell Funeral Homes from 1996 to 2008.
She was a member of the Unity Chapter No. 16 Order of the Easter star since 1954. During this time, she held the positions of Worthy Matron from 1970-1971 and 2018-2019 and as Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Delaware 1983-1984 and as a member of the ESTARL committee of the General Grand Chapter Order of the Easter Star 1988-1991.
In 1978 she was appointed by Governor Pete DuPont to serve on the Sussex Vocational-Technical High School Board of Education, and an appointment which she held until 1993. She also served on the Delaware Advisory Council for Vocational Education from 1980-1993 and on the National Council for Vocational Education (Perkins Council) from 1982-1993.
She was a devout Christian and member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, where she has served in many capacities, including singing in the church choir for over 50 years.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her children, Brent Moore (Nancy), Mark Moore (Barbara) Jayne Leitzel (Jim); grandchildren, Mark D. Moore, Jr (Cori), Lauri Vent (Eric), Jordan Moore (Ashley), SSgt. Jesse Moore (Sybille); 5 great grandchildren, Cruz Vent, Delayne Mae Vent, Mason Moore, Chip Moore, Luke Moore; and siblings, Albert Dorman, Sue Stone, Sarah Richards
Eastern Star services will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 29 W. 4th Street, Lewes, DE. where Christian services will begin at 11:15 AM. Friends may visit at the church, beginning at 10 AM. Private interment will follow the services at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes, DE.
