Joan P. Chalk's Obituary
Joan P. Chalk, age 86, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at her residence. She was born in London, England, on Wednesday, July 29, 1925, daughter of the late Frederick and Rose (Faulkner) Jensen.
Mrs. Chalk and her husband knew each other all of their lives. Mrs. Chalk attended Clark's College, London, England. After completing her schooling, she was a telephone operator first in England during World War II, then in Canada, and finally in the United States. In 1997 Mrs. Chalk and her husband retired to Delaware, Mrs. Chalk taught cooking and baking at the Southern Delaware Academy of Lifelong Learning where she also attended classes. She received multiple awards from the Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival for her wonderful creations; she was a choir member at Lewes Presbyterian Church; she enjoyed walking and feeding the ducks on Red Mill Pond; and she thoroughly enjoyed her trips to England, France and Rome. She was the family Matriarch who was loved by so many.
Mrs. Chalk is survived by her lifelong sweetheart and husband of 55 years; Alan J. Chalk, of Lewes; one daughter, Gillian Como of Freehold, NJ; two sons: David Chalk and his wife Tina of Allentown, PA, and Christopher Chalk and his wife Cheryl of Roscoe, IL; two grandsons: Caleb Loverro; and Micah Loverro; and one granddaughter, Stephanie Chalk.
Celebration of Mrs. Chalk's Life will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011, at 3:00 PM., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may call beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private.
