My mother-in-law Charlotte worked with Jo at Little Sisters of the Poor in Newark, DE. I also had the privilege, as I was a Nurses Assistant there as well. Jo was such a warm, caring nurse, but she could always find the humor in most situations. Jo taught all of us that things could get done much better if you approached it as if it were your parents. Treat others the same as you would like to be treated. My mother-in-law and I ran into Jo many years later at Cape Henlopen School as we all where evacuated there for Hurricane Danielle. I enjoyed working and learning from her. Save passage to your next adventure!
Cathy & Patty: Your Mom was an exceptional Lady. You know that, but so don’t the rest of us. She read and understood the issues of the day and her opinions were well thought out and presented clearly and confidently. I loved my discussions with her sitting in the living room or on the porch at 108 NJ. She was so well read...always interested in the issues of the day and the facts driving them. She listened to others’ views, but was not timid with her own. She loved her life as a nurse and especially her time as an Army nurse. So many stories about life in her wards and the care of patients and management of the senior officers. I think her favorite Army general was Dwight Eisenhower...but she avoided telling me straight out. She met the love of her life, Dick Ditto, through his dad, a Doctor I believe there at Walter Reed. She loved talking about those early days and had no trouble remembering the details. Like so many, I will miss Jo, but I will not forget the fun we had together. She was a gift to us all. I think we all loved her. If only we all could leave the extended, positive legacies she has created in her 95 years. She is proof all the good ones don’t leave us early! I too loved your Mom.
