Jessie B. Barnes' Obituary
Jessie B. Barnes of Catered Living of Ocean Pines, Ocean Pines, MD passed away at the remarkable age of 100 on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Catered Living Ocean Pines, MD.
She was born in Bridgeville, DE on September 5, 1910, daughter of the late William Henry Brown and Sallie Reed Brown. Jessie was the youngest of 8 children. She was the widow of Colonel Herbert Barnes, and had been married 65 years before his death on August 4, 1996. Jessie was raised in Porter, Delaware and worked in various businesses with her husband. She resided in Lewes, DE in her later years. She was very proud of her husband's accomplishments including being the first colonel of the Delaware State Police and founder of Camp Barnes, a free camp for the children of Delaware, operated by the Delaware State Police.
Jessie is survived by her two sons: Robert B. Barnes of Lewes, DE, and Herbert Barnes, Jr. of Baca Raton, FL; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday December 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE. Burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery.
