Jerry C Blakely's Obituary
Jerry C. Blakely, age 88, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. He was born on September 1, 1933, in Milan, OH, the son of the late Charles and Wilma (Welshon) Blakely.
Jerry attended high school in Sandusky, OH, graduating from Vermilion Senior High School. His advanced education training came from DeVry Institute in Chicago, Fenn College in Cleveland, OH, the Central Data Computer Program and many other valuable classes while serving in the United States Air Force.
Jerry wed Dorothy Ann Wheatley on June 20, 1960, at the Shore Haven Lutheran Church in Euclid, OH. they were married 62 years. They were blessed with the gift of one son, Todd Michael.
Following his service to our country in the United States Air Force, he worked as a technical sales engineer for most of his career. He spent the last few years in sales for Digital Equipment Corporation. He sold computer systems to NASA Space Flight Center Greenbelt, MD before retiring 1997.
Jerry loved being involved in sports and played with the Old Tymers Softball League into his 70’s. His faith was the anchor in his life and he and Dottie were faithful members of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Together they travelled the globe and were blessed to have visited all of the continents with the exception of Antarctica. Above all, the time spent with his family and those he cherished were what he held dear to his heart. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Blakely. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dottie of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his son Todd Michael Blakely (Paula Martinez) of Heathville, VA; his grandson, Taylor Blakely (Monica) of Columbia MD; granddaughter, Lauren Blakely (Matt) of Pooler, GA; and great-grandchildren, Ezra and Bradley and many nieces and nephews all over the country.
Dottie would like to thank their pastor, John Greig, their church family, “Beach family”, DAR family, and the many friends, neighbors, and all who offered unwavering encouragement and support during Jerry’s twenty-two journey to his eternal heavenly home.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 11:00AM at the Lutheran Church of our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00AM. Pastor Donald Schaefer will be officiating at the service. Interment will take place at a later date at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.
