I just learned this news and it saddens me greatly. Several years ago, my boyfriend and I visited Rehoboth Beach while conducting an appraisal on a house a few towns over. (We are real estate appraisers). We decided to take a drive into Rehobeth and stopped at a restaurant called Summer Hill. It was off season and there were just a few people dining. Jerry happened to be sitting in a seat or two down from us at the bar. We struck up a conversation while he was waiting for his dinner guest to arrive. It was if he were an old friend. We had such a good conversation and when his guest arrived, he suggested several places for us to go afterward. We had planned on leaving that evening but, Jerry insisted that we stay at one of his rentals that he was staying at. It was unbelievable! He didn’t know us from Adam yet he was so generous and friendly it was amazing! When we arrived at his home, he had already been asleep and he left us pajamas and robes on the guest bed. I felt as if I were a guest and a five-star hotel! The following morning, he went to Starbucks and came back with breakfast. True hospitality! We spent the day with him looking at another of his rentals on the lake. Which were amazing! We ended up having lunch together with great conversation! We were sad to leave. We said we will keep touch with him and visit during the season. We texted a few times shortly after but then, we couldn’t reach him. Sadly, I now know why. His name was brought up the other day because a friend of ours is looking for a home to purchase there and we thought of him so I thought to look him up. I am very sad to her he has passed. Sending love and prayers to all of his family and friends. He truly was a gentleman.
