Jeanne Hankins Hadley's Obituary
Jeanne Hankins Hadley, 81, originally from the Brookhaven, PA area, died at her home in Rehoboth Beach on Thursday, Oct. 18th. Mrs. Hadley was a lifelong teacher beginning her teaching career at Tatnall School in Wilmington. She taught at Alexis I. DuPont High School, Oak Grove Middle School and Cecil Community College.
During the 1950's Mrs. Hadley pioneered the home-bound tutoring program for the state of Delaware and continued with her home-bound students throughout her career first in Wilmington, then with the Appoquinimink School District and as recently as June of '07 with the Cape Henlopen School District in Sussex County, DE.
Mrs. Hadley has been an involved Rehoboth resident for over 20 years. She has been a docent at the Homestead of the Rehoboth Art League since 1985 and became a member of the Village Improvement Association (VIA) the same year and has been involved with the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership program (HOBY) for over a decade.
Mrs. Hadley was pre-deceased by her husband Calvin G. Hadley in 1984. She is survived by her son, Jan Hadley of West Union, SC, her daughter Lauren Kermode of Chesapeake City, MD, brothers David Hankins, Steven Hankins, Paul Hankins and Rev. William Hankins; grandsons Charles Hadley and John and Sam Richardson, granddaughters Katherine Gordon and Claire Richardson and seven great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium at 16961 Kings Highway in Lewes, DE on Sunday, October 28th. Visitation with the family at 1:00 PM and service at 2:00 PM. Memorial gifts may be made to the Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodds Lane in Rehoboth Beach, DE, 19971.
