Jean M. Smith's Obituary
Jean Marie Smith, age 61, of Ocean View, DE, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 10, 2010. She was born October 27, 1948, in Bethesda, MD, daughter of Jacob P. Smith of Dagsboro, DE and the late Jean (Smith) Smith.
Throughout her lifetime, Jean was well known for her love of animals, especially for her many dogs. She lived in the Washington, DC area for the first 37 years of her life maintaining many close friendships from those years while making many new friends in Delaware. While living in DC, she worked in the home improvement business and continued that line of work after relocating to Delaware in 1985. Shortly after moving to Delaware she found sobriety which enriched her life and others.
Jean Marie was always kind to others and was willing to step in and help those in need even though she was not always in the best of health. She was a very giving person and as a result taught those close to her “how to give.”
She loved crabbing, taking her dogs for walks and swims, music, and spending time with family and friends. During the last four years Jean Marie was devoted to caring for her 91 year old father.
In addition to her mother, Jean Marie was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph Timothy Smith, John Jacob Smith, and Charles Alan Smith; a sister, Patricia Ann Smith; and sister-in-law, Sherry Smith.
