Jean Dawson Savoy, age 83, of Lewes, DE, went home to the Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2012. She passed away peacefully at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, surrounded by her adoring family.

She attended Sacred Heart School and Friends School in Wilmington, and received an Associate’s Degree from Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ. She went on to become an executive secretary in the Office of the Secretary of the DuPont Company.
A faithful wife to her husband, the late Prew Savoy, she was his enthusiastic supporter in all his artistic endeavors. Moving to St. Jean, Quebec, Canada in 1959 with their three daughters, Jean became the proprietor of two Savoy Ski Shops. It was with great joy that she returned to her beloved Delaware around 1980 with Prew, finally settling in Lewes and enjoying the companionship of life-long friends. She resumed her acting career in community theatre at age sixty-five, performing with Second Street Players in Milford, Possum Point Players in Georgetown, and the touring Ad Hoc Players. Memorable roles include Ouiser in Steel Magnolias and lead roles in Social Security and Fibber McGee & Molly.
Jean was the guiding star of her family and always deeply involved in the life of her community. A Girl Scout leader, active with the Catholic Youth Organization, a devoted member of her Catholic Parish of St. Jude the Apostle where she served many years as a lector at Sunday Mass; she was also a spiritual guide to many who looked to her for strength and counsel in times of distress. Generous, caring and loyal, Jean could be depended on to lend her wisdom and creativity whenever it was needed.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Savoy was preceded in death by her husband, Prew (2004). She is survived by her three daughters: Jeanie Savoy Harper and her husband Robert F. of Chadds Ford, PA, Suzanne Savoy of New York City, NY, and Alexis Savoy-Blizzard and her husband Jeff of Rehoboth Beach, DE; six grandchildren: Erin Hoy, Bonnie Black, Heather Worall, Samantha, Rebecca and Emily Blizzard; and one great-granddaughter, Riley Worall.
