Jean Marie Norton's Obituary
Eugenia "Jean" Marie (Mokski) Norton, age 72, passed away peacefully at her residence in Rehoboth Beach on Saturday, March 8, 2008 after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was born in Bufflao, NY on June 3, 1935, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Mokski.
She was raised in Lackawanna, NY, and in 1957 received a bachelor's degree in education from the Buffalo State College of the State University of New York. She married Donald J. Norton on June 29, 1957. The couple had seven children: Jack, of Los Angeles, CA; Susan, of Ithaca, NY; Eric, of Lanoka Harbor, NJ; Ann, of Fenton, MI; Catherine, of Ithaca, NY, Lawrence, of Arlington, VA, and Donald Jr., who died in a motorcycle accident in 1988.
Jean taught elementary grades in public schools in New York State, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. In recent years she served as a volunteer mentor in the after school instruction program conducted by West Rehoboth New Beginnings.
She is survived by her husband and their six children; her brothers Donald, of Carlsbad, CA, and John, of Discovery, CA, and four grandchildren, Tess Norton of Santa Clarita, CA; Ricardo Norton of Ithaca, NY, and Benjamin and Joseph Henley of Fenton, MI.
A Catholic Blessing Service will be held Friday, March 14, 10 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorirum, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 11 AM, at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King Charles & Laurel Avenues, Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Please omit flowers. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Side New Beginnings, Children's Educational and Recreational Program, 100 Norwood St., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
