Jean Carson's Obituary
Jean Carson, age 90, passed peacefully at her home, on June 20.
Jean was born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, on August 27, 1929, daughter of Harry and Sarah Jane Higgins, who immigrated from Yorkshire, England to work in the coal mines. After high school, Jean studied nursing in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
She met Harlow Carson at the Jersey shore and they married on January 19, 1952. They honeymooned in New York City where they heard Perry Como. They lived at 6333 North Broad Street in Philadelphia, where their son Steven was born on October 20, 1952.
In 1959, they moved to Waterford, New York, where their son David was born on February 10, 1960. Jean worked as a unit supervisor of the Medical Oncology Department of the Leonard Hospital in Troy, New York.
For 26 years, Jean and Harlow spent their winters in Myrtle Beach, accompanied by their friends from Upstate New York, Rose and Fred Schuttenhelm.
After retiring, Jean and Harlow moved to Lewes, Delaware, in 1987. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, a member of the Lewes Senior Center, and a board member and secretary of the Sweet Briar Homeowners Association. In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, and playing Bingo and cards with her circle of friends. She loved to travel and visiting with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Harlow, her son Steven who lives in Philadelphia, her son David who lives in St. Louis with his wife Chona, near their two children Justin and Alyssa.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday June 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call beginning at 1:00 PM. Entombment will follow at the Bethel Methodist Mausoleum, Lewes, DE
Social distancing protocol will be observed and masks are mandatory for all attending services.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO BOX 1893, Memphis, TN 38101
