Hi My name is Larry Hutton, I went to WVU and was a fraternity brother of Jerry's. Jerry served as our consol (President) in Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a good fraternity brother and made many contributions to the fraternity. Many of us lost contact with Jerry after we graduated. I would like to offer my sympathys to the family.
I was fortunate to be a Sigma Chi Fraternity brother of Jerry at WVU, where he and I were in same pledge class, went active together, and shared the same Pocahontas County, W. Va background. He became president of our fraternity, made many friends, and was a true and honorable friend. I had lost track of him since our graduation, and often wondered what had become of him. It comes as no surprise that he served our country so faithfully and admirably, as he was truly a good man. The world is a better place because of Jerry's life. I am honored to call him a friend and fraternity brother.

I just learned of Jerry's passing though the WVU Sigma Chi newsletter. I pledged the fraternity in 1966 and had Jerry as my Big Brother. I later learned that my acceptance in the chapter was largely due Jerry's having taken a liking to me during a rush session. He was a good mentor and friend. Several years later, I was walking through JFK Airport when I heard someone call out my name. I finally looked up to to upper section and there, some distance away, was Jerry in full uniform waving to me. We had a great meeting before catching our respective planes. It was few years after that Jerry gave my wife and I a wonderful wedding gift which we still treasure. While we lost touch as our careers took different paths, I still remember his kindness to me and the other Sigma Chi brothers. I was honored to know him. I treasure those memories.

I knew Jerry in Stuttgart, Germany and enjoyed being his friend. Many of us from Stuttgart are morning his passing. Condolences to his family and friends. Sincerely, Barb
I just learned of Jerry’s passing. I am so very saddened by the loss. He was a great friend and honorable man. I am so very sorry for Jimmy Lee and their families. I can’t imagine their heartbreak. Jerry was heroic in so many ways. Love. Bob
I am so saddened by the news of Jerry's passing. When we were stationed in Germany, the BOQ residents became our family. Jerry was an integral member of that family. Sadly, many of us lost touch after we returned to the US. Jerry was one of those, but he was never far from our thoughts, especially when those of us who did stay in touch were together and rehashing all the good times we had at Patch Barracks. I am happy to see how well he did after Patch and how rich and full his life was. I wish I had known of his illness if for no other reason than to have sent him encouragement as he battled the dreaded cancer.
To Jerry’s family at this difficult time, may you find comfort in knowing that others share in your sorrow.
Jerry, thank you for your service to our country and for your friendship. It was a privilege knowing you. Rest in Peace my friend.

Frank and I were truly blessed to have Jerry in our lives. He always had a smile and an open heart. We enjoyed our talks, dinners out, and just the ‘knowing’ that we had a friend we could always count on. We will miss you my friend, but you will always be in our hearts and memories.
