James P. Whalen's Obituary
James P. Whalen, age 85 of Milton, DE, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. He was born on November 4, 1937, in Jersey City, NJ, son of the late Terrence and Catherine Whalen.
James was hardworking, honest, and industrious. Throughout his life, he was a Teamster, a black seal boiler operator, bar owner, and the owner of Mavin Oil Company. A quiet, kind, and observant man, James never uttered a harsh word regarding anyone. He had not an enemy in the world and was held in high esteem by everyone who knew him. James was a family man and cherished time spent with those he held dear. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, he was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Whalen; and his sister, Kathleen Mullen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Maureen Whalen; his children: Kim Meyer (Keith), James Whalen (Lori), Marc Whalen (Lisa), Thomas Whalen (Mary), Brian Whalen (Nickie), Jennifer Morse (David), and Caitlin Whalen; 15 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; his brothers: Terrance Whalen (Elba) and Michael Whalen (Doreen).
A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of choice.
