James Whiteley Travis Jr.'s Obituary
James Whiteley Travis Jr., age 93 of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes, DE. He was born on May 05, 1928, in Lewes, DE, son of the late James Whiteley Travis Sr. and Ruth (Melvin)Travis.
Mr. Travis was a 1946 graduate of the old Rehoboth High School and later continued his studies at the Goldey-Beacom College and the University of Delaware where he played basketball at all three schools.
Mr. Travis was the owner and operator of the West Bay Park, a mobile home park company, where he built a lifetime career, retiring after 30 dedicated years. He was a lifelong member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. Mr. Travis was very active man his entire life, enjoying a game of golf, boating and fishing on the area waterways as well as everything that coastal living had to offer. Above all, Mr. Travis enjoyed spending time with his family and those he held most dear, especially his wife of 71 years who was always by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine (Lawton) Travis; his sons: John "Jack' Lawton Travis (Joseph) of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Baltimore, MD, David Travis (Pamela) of Milton, DE, James Travis lll (Debbie) of Harbeson, DE, and Brad Travis Sr. (Michele) of Lewes, DE; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; his brother, Donald N. Travis (Jeanette) of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and his sister, Patricia Burton (Bill) of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where a viewing will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the services at the Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach..
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and masks will be required at all aspects of the service at the request of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mr. Travis’s memory to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org.
