James L. Richter's Obituary
James L. Richter, of Angola By The Bay, Lewes, DE formerly of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Renaissance Health Care, Millsboro, DE. Mr. Richter was born December 3, 1944 in Miami, FL, son of the late John C. and Elsie L. (Mauller) Richter.
Mr. Richter was a dedicated employee of DeCrane Aerospace, Pats Aircraft Systems. He also served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era, a member of the Delaware National Guard, past Boy Scouts of America Executive for the Delmarva Council Number 081, Wilmington, DE and past Treasurer of the Angola By The Bay Community Homeowners Association, Lewes, DE. He was known by all for his dedication and leadership, particularly through his involvement with the Lewes Presbyterian Church, Lewes, DE. Mr. Richter joined the church 38 years ago and later became a Deacon. Throughout the years he supported many missions, especially his wife's missionary program with the Congo of which he was very proud. He always had an open door and a smile on his face. No matter what the challenge, he always rose to the occasion. Mr. Richter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be sorely missed.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Richter was preceded in death by his step-mother Dorothy (Anderson) Richter. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sherry A. (Poffenberger) Richter; two sons: James L. Richter of Virginia Beach, VA and John L. Richter and his wife Ann of Milton, DE; one daughter, Jennifer L. (Richter) Seip and her husband James of Salisbury, MD; and five grandchildren: Matthew, Allison, Megan, James Noah, and Jonah.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM, at Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Interment will follow immediately in the adjoining church yard. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Lewes Presbyterian Church, Attention Congo Mission, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958.
