James Robert Newlin's Obituary
James Robert Newlin, age 98 of Lewes, DE and previously of Wichita, KS, Media, PA, Bella Vista, AR, and Gilbert, AZ, passed away at home, surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. He was born on December 29, 1923, in Reece, KS, son of the late Leo and Lela (Murray) Newlin.
Mr. Newlin graduated from Marion High School in Kansas, and he continued his studies at Wichita State University. He was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the US Navy during World War ll, as a fire controlman second class on the USS Maury. After his honorable discharge, Mr. Newlin married the love of his life, Wilma Irene Gibson on June 24, 1951, in Wichita, Kansas and together they enjoyed 67 years of marriage.
He enjoyed a lifelong career working as a manager for Boeing, manufacturing Helicopter 38s. Mr. Newlin had many and varied interests and hobbies, He was a world travel enthusiast and loved playing and watching golf on TV. Mr. Newlin also enjoyed playing cards (any game, any time). He was a proud member of several RV clubs and a 32nd Degree Mason in Consistory at Philadelphia, Bella Vista, Arkansas, and a Sunflower Blue Lodge member in Wichita, Kansas. Above all. Mr. Newlin loved spending time with those he held most dear. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Loved by many, Mr. Newlin will be deeply and genuinely missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Wilma I. Newlin. Mr. Newlin is survived by his daughter, Marleen (John) Czernik; his son, Ron (Joan) Newlin; his grandchildren: Kara (Paul) Hines, John (Danielle) Czernik, Jeff (Danielle) Czernik, Joan (Andrew) Braunstein, Amanda (Kevin) Kochersperger, Brandon (KayCee) Newlin; and his 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be private. Dad and Mom will be taken to Wichita Park Cemetery for burial along his parents, Leo and Lela Newlin.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mr. Newlin's memory to any Veterans Organization you choose to support.
