James F. Lyons' Obituary
James F. Lyons, age 87, of Lewes, DE passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 29, 1928 in Washington, DC, son of the late Thomas W. and Nora (Bagley) Lyons. Mr. Lyons was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Kathleen T. Lyons.
Mr. Lyons was a veteran of the United States Army and enjoyed a 36 year career with the C & P Telephone Company in Washington, DC. Upon retirement in 1984, Mr. Lyons and his family moved to Lewes where he served as a volunteer and Eucharistic Minister at St. Edmond Catholic Church; volunteered at Beebe Hospital; was a member and soloist in the Lewes Men’s Chorus; a member of the Lewes Senior Center; and American Legion member. Mr. Lyons was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Lyons was also preceded in death by his brother, the Most Rev. Thomas W. Lyons, his sister, Sister Mary Louise Lyons and son-in-law George W. Cahill. He is survived by his three sons, Kevin (Kathy) Lyons of Catonsville, MD, Dennis (Kathy) Lyons of Gaithersburg, MD and Thomas Lyons of Oakton, VA (Cindy Hales); three daughters: Kathleen (Brian) Shortley of Chevy Chase, MD, Mary Cahill of Georgetown, DE and Eileen (Ken) Hardy of Harbeson, DE; his twin sister, Helen Ebaugh of Vienna, VA, his brother, Paul Lyons of Vienna, VA, fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 11:00 AM, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the services at 1:00 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Lyons' memory to St. Edmond Catholic Church "Building Fund," 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
