James F. King's Obituary
James F. King, Sr., age 82, of Millsboro, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Renaissance Health Care, Millsboro. He was born November 20, 1928 in Newport, DE, son of the late Wilson and Anna May (Mott) King.
Mr. King served in the US Army during WWII. Upon returning home he started a lifelong career as an Iron Worker for Local 451, Wilmington, DE, working on many projects including the Peach Bottom Nuclear Plant, Salem, NJ. Soon after his retirement in 1985, he moved from Newark, DE to Rehoboth Beach, DE where he enjoyed fishing every chance he got. He was an amateur radio operator and a member of the Ratchet Jaws Club in New Castle; he surfed the Indian River Inlet for many years; he was a good mechanic who picked up side jobs as time permitted; and he had a passion for artistic painting.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of thirteen years, Eleanor M. King; his son, Raymond “Cookie” Houck; brothers, Richard and Jerry King; sister, Mary Griffith; and grandson, Jose Hanny. He is survived by three daughters: Diane Furlong and husband Jim of Peekskill, NY, Debbie Harkins of Georgetown, DE and Donna Rabenstein and husband Ed of Georgetown, DE; two sons: James F. King, Jr. and wife Christine of Newark, DE, Lester W. King and wife Emmy of Frankford, DE; sister, Berdetta “Sis” Jones of Dover, DE; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, 1:00 PM at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North Dupont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10TH Street, Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
