James Gerard Heston's Obituary
Jim Heston, lovingly known as “Pop”, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday April 29th. In his final moments, he was gently sung into heaven as JP played the guitar, and his family lifted their voices with love, guiding him on his way. We take comfort in knowing he was welcomed with open arms into a joyful reunion with those who went before him.
He was a devoted husband, for 40 years, to his wife, Maureen, a proud father to Tara, Allie and JP, and a cherished grandfather. He also had a special bond with his two sons-in-law Adam and Garrett. He was especially connected to his brothers Mike and Pete, their wives EJ, Carline and their families with whom he shared regular Sunday calls.
Jim enjoyed the everyday moments — rides to the beach, tinkering on projects in the garage, and evenings at home watching the news, always keeping an eye on the weather.
Pop had a legend-dairy love for ice cream, especially night time treats and “sneaking off” to Dairy Queen with his granddaughters Isra, Sulfi, Meryem, and Reagan. He believed ice cream could make any day better.
You called Pop when something needed fixing, he used his old school style: a bit of duct tape and creativity. He was serious about serving on fire departments in Ogdensburg and Livingston and He loved teaching the new guys the trade. He brought that same pride to his work as an electrician in hospitals and nuclear plants. But it was the little things that made him unforgettable — hidden candy stash, a handkerchief at the ready, and his dependable (designated) role as Grandma’s driver.
Above all, Pop’s heart belonged to his granddaughters, who brought him endless joy and pride.
We will forever remember Pop’s fierce loyalty, strong and steady presence, and how he loved his family without limits. If you were one of his people, you knew it.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
