James Foraker's Obituary
James "Jim" D. Foraker, age 88, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes, surrounded by his family. He was born June 22, 1919 in Dover, DE, son of the late William G. and May (Thomlinson) Foraker.
Mr. Foraker retired from the US. Army at the rank of staff sargeant and continued working in Civil Service, first at Fort Miles in Lewes and later at the Dover Air Force Base where he was a foreman in the heavy maintenance motor pool. He also owned and operated Foraker's Auto Repair in Lewes, DE for many years. He was an avid gardener and was very generous in giving to anyone in need from his garden. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, the Lewes Senior Center and American Legion Post #17, Lewes, DE for 59 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, 862nd Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company. After leaving the service, he also served with the National Guard.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Grace (Hills) Foraker; two daughters, Ruth Ann Hearn and Virginia "Ginny" May Mitchell and her husband Donald, all of Lewes; four grandchildren, Joanna Headley and husband Mark, Robert Hearn, Jr. and wife Mary Ellen, Cindie Owen, and John Ribinsky, Jr. and wife Dianna; eleven great-grandchildren, Zachary Headley, Lindsey Headley, Zachary Ribinsky, Paige Wright, Jake Thrasher, Brooke Wright, Devon Owen, Braydon Owen, Sarah, Abbey, and Danny Hearn; and a sister, Myrtle Voshell of Dover. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by six brothers, Richard, William, Raymond, Elvin, Heartieand Robert and two sisters, Marie Lindale and Rebecca Blades.
Funeral services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 2 PM, where friends may call beginning at 1 PM. Pastor Fred Duncan will be officiating. Interment will be at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, DE.
