James Turley Farrar's Obituary
James Turley Farrar, age 80 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Delaware, on September 23, 2023. He was born in 1943 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, son of the late Turley and Zelle Farrar.
Jim spent his childhood years in Tennessee and Minnesota. He graduated from Baylor Military Academy in Chattanooga, TN, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee, and an M.B.A.degree from Mankato State University in Minnesota.
Jim was a proud veteran who started his career in the Navy. He was assigned to a tour of duty on the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier. After college, he worked in quality control and project management in the aerospace and microelectronics industries. Later in his career, he worked in project management as a contractor for the federal government.
After living in Columbia, MD for 30 years, Jim and his wife retired to Rehoboth Beach. He was an avid golfer and spent many happy hours on the Midway golf course in Rehoboth. Jim enjoyed the simple things in life, like walking on the beach early in the morning and watching the sunset from his backyard deck.
Jim was a devoted husband, a patient and caring father, and a fun-loving grandfather. He especially enjoyed the Gramp Camp weeks he and his wife hosted for the grandchildren each summer.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Roxanne Farrar; his children: Turley Farrar (Meg Miller), James Farrar (Cindy), and Catherine Farrar Marinzel (Ryan); his beloved grandchildren; and his three sisters Anne Farrar, Jane Cranshaw (David), and Clayton Farrar Lightman (David).
The family would like to express their gratitude to all of Jim’s healthcare team members at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the nurses and volunteers at the Tunnell Cancer Center, and the Delaware Hospice Center staff, for the compassionate care they provided during the last days of Jim’s life.
At Jim’s request, a private celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
