James Bazzoli's Obituary
James Bazzoli, 92, of Lewes, DE passed away at The Moorings on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Born on September 10, 1930, in the Winterthur area of Wilmington, DE to the late Lucian and Lily (Larsen) Bazzoli. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances K. Bazzoli, who passed away at The Moorings on June 13, 2020.
Jim earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Delaware followed by a master's degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania. He was employed by the Ferris School and then as a community organizer in the inner city of Wilmington. Jim was then asked to be the executive director of Geriatric Services in Delaware.
Jim was a skilled amateur horticulturist. As a member of the Delaware Avenue Community Association, Jim headed the tree committee and oversaw the planting of 100 new street trees in the community. For that work, Jim was named Wilmington's volunteer of the year in 1994.
Following their retirement to their Millville home, near Ocean View, Jim and Frances became members of the Sussex Bird Club, The Delaware Orchid Society, and the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, where Jim helped maintain a walkway and build bird observation platforms. Jim also had an avid interest in lighthouses and volunteered with the Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation. Over the years, Jim and Frances enjoyed many trips to Europe, the Caribbean, Columbia, Canada, Costa Rica and Egypt.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contribution to the Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation at PO Box 708, Lewes, DE 19958.
