Ira Luther Absher's Obituary
Ira "James" Luther Absher of Bridgeville, DE passed away Saturday April 27, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family. Born February 18, 1939, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, James was the youngest son of the late William and "Hattie" Absher. The Absher family moved from North Carolina to their "Absherville" residence on Redden Road in 1943 where James remained and raised his family. Many people may remember James as "Doobie", a nickname given to him many years ago. James is survived by his children, Jamie Absher (Crystal), Jeff Absher (Christine), Jane Schrock (Dan), Debbie Cooper (Alton), son in law Robert Reed, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and brother Mack Absher. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Gail, daughter, Becky Reed, parents, William and Hattie, 5 brothers Claude, Dan, Jay, John, and Frank, and 2 sisters Rachel Walker, and Pearl Hassett.
James was a United States Army veteran. He could be known for piddling in his shop on various items, until his eyesight prevented that from continuing. He loved country music, the lord, and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed in his neighborhood of "Absherville".
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 11th at :1:00 PM at the Seaford Moose Lodge 22759 Bridgeville Highway, Seaford, Delaware 19973.
