Hugh B. Sampson's Obituary
Hugh B. Sampson, age 75, of Lewes, DE passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013, in Milford, DE. He was born on August 17, 1937 in Washington, DC, son of the late Hugh Beuford Sampson, Sr. and Margaret Manderson (Long) Sampson.
Mr. Sampson graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1955. He received his AA in law enforcement from Maryland University. Mr. Sampson was a draftsman with the Southern Railroad before joining the Montgomery County Maryland Police Department in 1961, where he served in various positions including K-9 and retiring as Sergeant in 1984. Mr. Sampson continued to work with the U.S. Marshal’s Service in Greenbelt, MD until his final retirement to Delaware in 1999. During his retirement, Mr. Sampson stayed busy volunteering 11 years for the Lewes Fire Police and also serving several years for the Delaware State Police at Troop 7.
Mr. Sampson enjoyed Civil War reenactments, especially the 4th Virginia Calvary Unit. He had a terrific sense of humor, a dry wit and could always make you laugh. He loved his coffee, his dogs and above all else, his family. Mr. Sampson will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sampson was preceded in death by his fraternal twin brother, Harley Sampson who passed away three years ago to the day, March 17, 2010, and his beloved German Shepherd, “Wolf”. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Bobbie; his son, Todd Sampson and his wife, Kendra of Jefferson, MD; his two daughters, Tracey Kaul and her husband, David of Westminster, MD and Tara Walker and her fiancé, Mark Berkheiser of Magnolia, DE; and his six grandchildren: Dustin, Alex, Jack, Holly, Ryan, and Lindsay.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow. Friends may also visit Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium.
