I know this is late, but my mom recently passed away (7 years after my dad) and I’ve been going through a lot of old pictures to choose those to keep. And there was Hugh alongside my dad who was his goalie in 1944-45 when Forest Park High School won the Maryland ice hockey championship. Years later we would often see Hugh at Baltimore Clippers (AHL) games and my clear memory was how, every time, he was overjoyed to see my dad (and that feeling was mutual) and his genuine, radiant smile, as in the enclosed photo, and blessedly still there in the memorial photo above!

Hugh was always smiling.....kind, warm and loving. He had many qualities that were learned from his mom, who we called Grandmother Councill, who my family got to know in my youth when I lived down the street from her in Linthicum, Maryland. He loved life and bestowed that energy on everyone that came in contact with him. He will be greatly missed. Linda Stoll and Jane (Stoll) Meleady.

Although I did not know Hugh personally, he would come into the original Café Azafran in Lewes and I remember him singing the Lewes song to us! Definitely something I will never forget! Prayers to his wife and son.

We will miss Hugh so much. I remember him writing to me when I went away to college just so that I would have a note from home. He was an incredibly caring person and never without a story to tell or something funny to say to make people laugh. We will miss your smile and your happy spirit. We love you!

We are so very sorry to lose such a cheerful person! It is hard to think of Hugh Councill without remembering his constant smile. He was an enthusiastic lover of life and will be missed by many. We remember our family visiting his in Lewes when our grandchildren were little. Adam was about 5 and he really hit it off with Hugh who started something he called "Guy Talk" that made Adam feel special. Hugh also sang a chorus song to the kids and they loved it! Always a kid at heart, we love you!

Hugh and Flo have been friends for over 35 years. We spent time with them at Shrine and Masonic events. Also we went on cruises and conventions with them. He would always be in the talent shows on the cruises. He was such a good sport. Such a kind and caring person Hugh was. After my husband passed away Hugh called me more than anyone to check on me and make sure I was still riding "my bike". I will miss his calls. I have many memories of his art work, photography and his singing. He always stole the show with the Lewes Mens Chorus. My sympathy to Flo and Brent. A memorial gift has been sent in Hugh's name to the Shriner's Hospital.

We were blessed at a Lewes Presbyterian Church a Soup Ministry to have High and Flo join us weekly. Hugh was such a kind and caring man. He would serenade us and we enjoyed it very much. Rest In Peace, Mr. Hugh. Thank you for you fellowship and sharing of stories and songs. Our deepest sympathy to dear, Flo. Prayers for peace and comfort.

I will always remember all the fun and crazy times with Cousin Boots. He was the bell of the ball at every occasion and loved to make people smile and have a good time.
