Herbert "Doug" Jones' Obituary
Herbert Douglas "Doug" Jones, age 70, of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Washington, DC, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. He was born on April 11, 1944 in Alamance County, NC, son of the late Herbert S. and Irene (Burnett) Jones.
As a young man Doug lived near his mother's parents and helped on the farm growing a lot of tobacco and other food crops. At the age of 15 he was driving a school bus. Doug loved his grandmother's cooking and his grandfather also made the best moonshine in the area, oops! After his schooling, Doug was drafted into the US Army where he served as a Medic in Germany and an assistant to the Army priest.
After honorably being discharged from the Army, Doug attended college in Washington, DC. He worked for a building contractoror, local bank, The Pentagon and the Navy yard in the Communication and Computer wiring departments.
His former partner, Raymond McInturff met in Washington, DC, Raymond passed away from cancer on March 15, 1999. Doug retired early due to an arthritis disability to care for Ray, which he did for 10 years.
Doug volunteered with Hospice Sussex County for over 10 years. He was a member of the Metropolitan Community Church in Rehoboth Beach and received loving care of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. The past two years Doug spent time enjoying his BMW four wheel scooter around Rehoboth Beach. His scooter meant he was able to get out and enjoy the boardwalk and take in the view of the ocean.
Doug is survived by two sisters Donna Nettles and Sue Parker; two brothers, Jimmy Jones and Freddie Jones of NC; Gil Thompson, friend and partner; Gils children, Mark and Marlene and many friends in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the Tunnel Cancer Center, Beebe Healthcare, Jefferson Hospital and Delaware Hospice.
Entombment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE at a later date.
