Helen was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1926 and moved to Waynesboro, Virginia in the 8". grade. An avid reader, she was moved ahead a grade in her class. Her father moved the family to Seaford in her early high school years and she graduated from Seaford High in the class of 1943. Following graduation, she attended Beebe Hospital School of Nursing, enrolling in the Cadet Nurses Corps. Helen had planned to become a Navy nurse after graduation, but when World War II ended, she met and married the love of her life, Bill Walls. Bill and Helen married in 1946 and had four children, Bob, Mike, Judi, and Cyndi.
Helen loved football, especially when her boys or Florida teams were playing, crossword puzzles, Dancing with the Stars, reading and going out to eat, especially at Red Lobster for fried catfish. She especially loved her children. She was not one to meddle in others' lives, but after Bill's death in 1975, she took the reins and in her own quiet way, led the family, offering strength and guidance along the way. Learning was important to Helen, and she helped her children excel academically. She moved to Florida in 1979 and experienced some "me time" as she called it. She loved to travel and was especially fond of Ireland, and the north Georgia mountains. She was a real "sun bunny" enjoying the beach in Delaware and the pool in Florida. She loved doing crafts of all kinds and was especially gifted in the art of crocheting. She furnished all of her children and grandchildren with warm, beautiful afghans. She was a "clothes horse" and loved to "shop till she dropped" in her younger years. Helen moved to Marietta, Georgia in 2009 to be closer to family. She never forgot her friends in Delaware and Florida, and left a special friend behind in Texas, Ambrose Czajkowski.
She will be missed by all who loved her.
