Helen L. Kubico's Obituary
Helen Leah Kubico of Newark, DE, passed away in Lewes, DE on Sunday, March 13, 2011. She was 92 years old.
Born February 2, 1919 in Lowellville, OH to the late Paul and Annabel Smith, she was the youngest of three sisters. Her early years were spent in Ohio where she met and married her husband of 69 years, Michael A. Kubico (deceased). She earned degrees from the College of Wooster and Case Western Reserve (Ohio) and moved to Delaware shortly thereafter.
Helen worked first as a nurse and then as a teacher of both chemistry and biology at Newark and Thomas McKean High Schools. She received the Governor’s Volunteerism Award for her work with Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research and enjoyed golfing, snorkeling, wood carving, murder mysteries, science fiction, gardening, and nature in all of its manifestations.
She is survived by two sons, Michael A. Kubico, Jr. of Jupiter, FL and Stephen B. Kubico of Dover, DE; their respective partners Elizabeth Shapiro and Trish Kubico; and two grandchildren, Stephanie N. Kubico and Samuel C. Kubico, both of Dover, DE.
