Helen H. Fisher's Obituary
Mrs. Helen Corkran Hitch Fisher, age 98 of Lewes, DE, passed away on June 7, 2014 at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes. Mrs. Fisher was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Emmett Francis Hitch. She was born Feb. 5, 1916 in Alton, Illinois.
At the age of two the family moved to Wilmington, DE. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1933 and went on to graduate from Syracuse University in 1937. She was member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and the Alpha Zetta Alpha Honorary Design Sorority. In 1937, she married Richard John Fisher. They resided in Wilmington and moved to Kennett Square, PA in 1940, where they raised their four daughters.
She was a member and past president of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club. She won several Blue Ribbons for her entries in the Philadelphia Flower Show. Mrs. Fisher was also a member of the Kennett Country Club and enjoyed her 9 hole group. She was a volunteer for the Chester County Hospital and later for Encore. Mrs. Fisher was the assistant Brownie Troop Leader for 10 years. She was a member and previous elder for the Kennett Square Presbyterian Church.
In 1978, she and her husband moved to Bayonet Point and became members of Beacon Woods Country Club. They made many new friends and played a great deal of bridge and golf. Her husband passed away in 1986 and shortly thereafter she moved to Lewes. The move was wonderful for her because all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were able to visit her. During her last year she joined a bridge group that played at the Beacon Motel. This brought her so much joy and she was able to make new friends.
She is survived by her four daughters: Peggy Gore (Ken) of Boise, ID, Susan Wagner (Bruce) of Loleta, CA, Barbara Davis (Dennis) of Midlothian, VA and Jane Poulterer (Bill) of Lewes, DE; eight grandchildren: Jeffrey Fleming, Deb Fleming, Timothy Fleming, Erin Burchfield, Adam Duran, Ward Davis, Peggy Crider and Matthew Evans and 19 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE where friends may visit beginning at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers contributions be made in her name to the Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Avenue, Lewes, DE.
