Hattie "Pat" Lee Medwed's Obituary
Hattie "Pat" Lee Medwed, age 92, of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach, DE. She was born on July 10, 1922 in Weaverville, NC, daughter of the late Charlie and Nellie (Doan) Harris.
Pat spent her early years at Fort Bragg where her father was stationed in the U.S. Army. There she played with three little boys who nicknamed her "Little Pat". This name has stayed with her ever since. Throughout Pat's childhood, she went back and forth between Army bases. While at Fort Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, she attended her first two years of high school. She finished high school at Western High in Washington, D.C. and then attended Strayer Business College.
In 1940, Pat married the love of her life, 2nd Lt. John D. Medwed with whom she was stationed on many different Army bases both in the United States and abroad. While living at Fort Eustis, VA, their only son, John Jr. "Johnny" Medwed was born.
Throughout the years, they were stationed in Kyoto, Japan and Germany where Pat had many chances to travel. She enjoyed visiting Italy, France, Belgium and Switzerland. When her husband retired as a Full Colonel, they moved back to the States settling down in Stanton, VA. Following her husband's passing in 1991, Pat continued to live in Stanton until she moved to Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach, DE in 2003.
A private Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
