Harvey Roberts Waltersdorf's Obituary
Harvey Roberts Waltersdorf, 95, of Ashburn, VA, and formerly of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on June 6, 2024, in hospice care due to failing health. Born in Chester to Harvey Reginald Waltersdorf and Elva Mae Waltersdorf (nee Shropshire) on November 16, 1928, Harvey enjoyed building model airplanes and collecting World War II postcards. He graduated from Glen-Nor High School in 1946 and served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He married Elizabeth Virginia Bates on January 27, 1951, in Linwood, PA.
Harvey worked as a manufacturing foreman at Westinghouse Electric and became a project manager. He furthered his education through college extension programs and was active in the local civic association in Swarthmore, PA, where he and Elizabeth made their home. Harvey retired from Westinghouse in 1995 and moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE in 1997. He enjoyed Harley-Davidsons and antique cars. Harvey served on the Save Our Lakes Alliance and spear-headed the initiative for the Rehoboth Beach Historical Museum where he volunteered as a docent. Elizabeth passed away in 2002. After his marriage to Margaret Cox on November 3, 2007, Harvey joined Epworth Methodist Church and served as an usher. He and Margaret enjoyed traveling and attending concerts at the bandstand.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Ashburn, VA, his son, Harvey, Jr. (Martha) of Cary, NC, his daughter, Linda Cobourn (Ronald) of Marcus Hook, PA, and several grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Elva Waltersdorf, his wife, Elizabeth Waltersdorf, and his son-in-law, Ronald Cobourn.
Funeral services for Harvey will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16901 King’s Highway, Lewes, DE. Visitation is at 10 AM, followed by the service at 11 AM. The interment will be private.
Guests are invited to attend a luncheon at Rigby’s Bar and Grill, 404 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dementia Society of America (dementiasociety.org/donate) or the National Keratoconus Foundation (nkfc.org/donations).
