Harry Whaples' Obituary
Harry "Frank" Whaples, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed peacefully from his residence into the loving arms of Jesus Christ his Savior after a difficult battle with cancer. He was 79 years old. He was born in Wilmington, DE on February 16, 1927, son of the late Fredrick N. Whaples and the late Nina (Hastings) Whaples Bird.
Frank was born, raised and lived in Delaware all his life. He served three years in the Navy's South Pacific Fleet during WW II and as an Army Airborne Squad Leader in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post #28 as well as the Veteran of Foreign Wars Club Post #7234, where he was part of the Honor Guard. He was an avid Phillies fan, but even more so he enjoyed playing softball for Delmarva's Olde Tymers Softball League. Frank was a born again Christian and an active member of The First Baptist Church of Lewes.
He will be dearly and lovingly missed by his wife of 49 years, Liv (Hegdal) Whaples; his sons, Franklin Lee and his wife Jodie of Dotham, AL and Jack Booth and his wife Cindy of Michigan; his daughters, Lori Ann Citro of Newark, DE, Carrie Lynn Heldmann and her husband Richard of Brandiburg, NJ, Tina Kay Tessein of Newark, DE; ten grandchildren: Michael E. Tessein and his wife Ebony, Marc E. Tessein, Mallory Tessein, Joey Conner, Julie A. Citro, Ethan Citro, Kelsey Doughton, Anton Heldmann, Joseph Heldmann, and Franklin William Whaples; one great-granddaughter, Michaela Tessein; four sisters, Ruth Schirmer, Madelyn Mills, Evelyn Cahall and Cathy Shutak; and many nieces and nephews here in the USA and in Norway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son James Booth.
Frank's wife and his children would like to extend their gratitude for the prayers, cards, and outreach of love that has been shown to them through a sad time in their lives.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 18, 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Lewes, 1001 Kings Highway, Lewes with Pastor David Munro officiating; friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Lewes, address above or to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
