Harry J. McLaughlin's Obituary
Harry Joseph McLaughlin, age 82, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008, at Renaissance Healthcare in Millsboro, DE with family by his side. He was born July 13, 1926 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late James and Ellen (Crossan) McLaughlin.
Mr. McLaughlin made his living working as a plumber. He was a member of Plumbers Union Local 74 where he served as a Business Agent and was a former President for one term. Mr. McLaughlin served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific and in the liberation of the Philippines. He was a member of American Legion Post #5 and VFW Post 7447 where he was a past Commander. He also served as a past VFW State Commander. The family wishes to thank their close friend, Avon McCauley, and niece, Judy Norton, for the loving care they so willingly provided to Mr. McLaughlin.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McLaughlin was preceded in death by his 11 siblings, he was the last of 12 children. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Stella (Detora) McLaughlin; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 27, 1 PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriot's Way, Millsboro, DE with Deacon John Smith officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, 11 AM to 12 Noon at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
