Harry William Lewis' Obituary
Harry W. Lewis
August 19, 1941 – November 24, 2024
Harry W. Lewis, 83, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, with his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce, by his side. Harry was a well-known and respected figure in the Bethany Beach area, where he owned and operated Harry's Bait & Tackle, Bethany Rentals, and Bayberry Liquors for over 25 years. His contributions to the community left a lasting impact, and many continue to fondly remember him.
Dewey Beach was Harry's home for 60 years, and he was deeply proud of the town. Each winter, he and Joyce made their way to St. Augustine, Florida, where they enjoyed the vibrant community and formed many lasting friendships.
Harry had a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing, crabbing, and spending time on the water. His boat, which he affectionately referred to as his "Second Joy" was a familiar sight on the waters of the Delaware coast. He also enjoyed reading, watching sports, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family.
A proud graduate of Rehoboth Beach High School, Harry was also a former football player. He was a valued member of the Red Man Society, the Elks, and the Methodist Church, where he was active in his community.
Harry will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Harry was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill Lewis, Ed Lewis, and June Emmons. He is survived by his beloved wife Joyce; his sons, Harry, and Rob Lewis; his daughters-in-law, Terri, Lewis and Sherry Lewis; and his grandchildren, Meghan, Caitlyn, Cole, and Colin. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Paul.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, 187 Henlopen Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
