Harriet Brode Griffith's Obituary
Harriet May Brode Griffith, age 88 of Frostburg, Maryland passed away quietly February 3rd at Cadbury at Lewes, DE. Mrs. Griffith was born 1922 in Sharon, PA, daughter of the late Oscar and Hattie Brode. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband George Henry Griffith, formerly of Frostburg; brother Carl Brode; dear sister Amelia and her husband Cliff Alexander; and nephew John Brode.
Harriet graduated from Beall High School and Frostburg State Teachers College before beginning her teaching career in Washington, DC and Allegany and Garrett County School Systems.
Mrs. Griffith was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ. She enjoyed 50 years of membership in the Frostburg Homemakers and was a recipient of Maryland's "You are beautiful" program for her volunteering efforts. She entertained many with her talents as a soprano and immensely enjoyed her time as a member of the September Singers.
She will be missed greatly by her family: sons Douglas Griffith and wife Patti of Millsboro, DE, Jeffrey Griffith of Grantsville, MD; daughter Lucinda and her husband Richard Blagg of Portsmouth, VA; grandchildren, Benjamin Blagg, Alexander Blagg and Hannah Griffith; niece Robyn and her husband Joe Orsini of St. Helena CA; sisters-in-law Nancy Grant, of Cumberland, MD, Verna Davis of Portsmouth, VA, Jane Cumiskey of Phoenix, AZ; brothers-in-law Joe Griffith of Portsmouth, VA and Blaine Griffith, Oakdale, CA; cousin and very dear friend Thelma Fuller of Frostburg; extended family Liz and Ron Boyer of Grantsville, MD; and numerous others.
Memorial services will be held at the Salem United Church of Christ, 78 Broadway, Frostburg, MD on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 1 PM where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be private. All are invited to attend a reception following the service at Failinger's Hotel Gunter on 11 W. Main Street in Frostburg, MD.
