Harold C. Shaffer's Obituary
Harold C. Shaffer , age 88, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2010 at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. He was born Friday, April, 14, 1922 in Hyndman, PA, son of the late Floyd and Ethel (Coughenour) Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer, for whom working was a hobby, owned and operated his own business on Coastal Highway since 1949, a tire and bicycle sales and repair shop. He also enjoyed bird watching and cleaning the side of the road wherever he saw trash! He attended Midway Assembly of God Church in Lewes and Word of Hope Church in Milton. Mr. Shaffer proudly served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Stella Shaffer, a daughter Nancy Shaffer, and a brother, Victor Shaffer. He is survived by his wife Cindy (Emerick) Shaffer; three sons: Matthew and Nathan Shaffer, both of Lewes and Glen Shaffer and his wife Stacey of Milton, DE; a daughter, Beverly Miller and her husband Barry of Milford, DE; three grandsons: Bradley, Brandon, and Brian Miller all of Milford; two brothers: Dale Shaffer and his wife Kathy of Seaford, DE and Eston Shaffer and his wife Janie of Absecon, NJ; and a sister-in-law, Ann Shaffer of Lewes.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010, 12 noon at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call beginning at 11:00 AM. Pastors Gary Ross and Greg Boothman will co-officiate. Interment will follow the service at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
