Harold H. Lauckner's Obituary
Harold H. Lauckner (born Horst Lauckner), age 85, of Lewes, DE, passed away in the early morning hours of January 12, 2015 at Cadbury at Lewes. Harold was born on July 1, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, son of the late Margaret Lauckner.
Harold was raised in Germany and immigrated to the United States at the age of 17, immediately following World War II. He had a long career working in stage lighting on Broadway and for the last 20 years of his career, managing the hydraulic stage system at the Metropolitan Opera. He was a member of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 1. Harold was a creative craftsman at work and at home, renovating the family home. Harold and his wife of 58 years, Gerda (Erben) Lauckner loved to travel, ski and dance. They enjoyed many years of traveling the world, with their daughter Dr. Doris G. Lauckner, skiing as well as visiting family and friends in Germany where Gerda, his wife, was also born and raised. As members of the German Club in Dover, New Jersey they spent many weekends socializing and dancing, Harold loved to dance.
In addition to his mother Harold was preceded in death by “Onkle and Tante;" Phillip and Liesel Lotz. Harold is survived by his wife, Gerda (Erben) Lauckner of Lewes, DE, his daughter Dr. Doris G. Lauckner of Lewes DE and her partner Carlyle F.H. Hooff, sister-in-law Marlies Erben of Hartsdale, N.Y., brother-in-law, Bruno Erben and his wife Betty and his uncle Bert Lauckner.
A Memorial Service will be held at Cadbury at Lewes on Friday January 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM where friends may visit beginning at 1 PM. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers please send a donation to Cadbury at Lewes, Office of Philanthropy, 17028 Cadbury Circle, Lewes, DE 19958 and specify “for staff in Assisted Living Memory Care Unit in memory of Harold Lauckner”.
