I was a coworker of Harlan’s at C&P Telephone and then Bell Atlantic. It was very difficult being the only female in an all male crew. He became my very best male friend. Not only helping me with learning the job but he just made all things easier. Many of us experienced his help and we all were thankful for him. I’ll never forget him. I was there when he fell so deeply in love with Susie.. he was so happy. Visits after retirement were so nice and wish we could of had 1 more…rest in peace Harlan and thank you for being you ❤️
Mr.Goodnight was my baseball coach in the early 1980's. Yet he wasn't just my coach, he was a mentor, a positive role model, and pretty much a 2nd father every summer. One summer I had quit the team because some neighborhood kids were "unfriending" because of my love for baseball... Mr.Goodnight took the time out of his lunch break the next day to call me and talk to me for over an hour and convince me that I had friends on that team that need me and that I wasn't a quitter!
I remember good times working with
Harlan back in the 70s and 80s at the phone factory. He was a good tech and fun to work with, always a laugh.
My prayers are with Susie and his family.
Harlan was a boyhood friend of mine in Landover Hills. Indeed, we were next door neighbors. Harlan, Donny Tracey and I would catch fish and box turtles in Beaver Dam creek in the woods near the railroad tracks. (We "raced" the turtles in our front yards, then released them back to the woods.) We would sled down 72nd Avenue on our "Fliers" and crash into the woods, all banged up. (Our moms were horrified.) We played "touch" football in the street or up the road at the school. Our neighborhood were rabid Redskins and Senators fans. I recall the Redskin Band practicing in the Goodnight's front yard in full regalia. To this day, I brag about Harlan and the Redskin band! Harlan was a couple of years older than me. I must say that I looked to Harlan as my wise, older "brother". I was a lucky boy to have had Harlan as a friend. Jim S.
Harlan we have known you and your loving family for a few short years. In those years our families have blended and we gained strength & love . Your sports stories were always very interesting and we will continue to share them and your memories .
Rest in peace , you are missed.

Harlan you were so sweet and will be greatly missed. Reading this reminded me of the times that he helped bake cookies for school or church projects for the girls. Gonna miss you “Buttercup” ❤️
