H. Allen Lewis' Obituary
H. Allen Lewis, age 81, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. He was born March 16, 1930, in Milford, son of the late Harmon Lawrence and Clara (Ewing) Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was a native Sussex Countian; he attended the Milton School District until 10th grade when he transferred to Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA), Fork Union, VA, graduating in 1948. Following graduation, he attended the University of Delaware for one year. He left school for the US Air Force serving his country during the Korean War. Prior to his discharge he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Lewis enjoyed a lifelong career working for the Sussex Trust Company retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Masonic Endeavor Lodge #17 and enjoyed playing the trumpet, big band music, dancing, and watching any sport. More than anything, Mr. Lewis loved being a grandfather.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bernice “Dolly” C. (White) Lewis; two sons: Jay A. Lewis and his wife Janice of Milton, DE, and Randy W. Lewis and his wife Carole of Snellville, GA; one daughter, Debbie E. Parker and her husband Gary of Middletown, DE; two grandsons: Jay A. Lewis II of Lewes, DE, and Gary Parker Jr. and his wife Laurie of Chesapeake City, VA; two granddaughters: Allison Kruger and her husband Carl of Wilmington, NC, and Jenifer R. Jones and her husband Nate of Millsboro, DE; a great grandson Trent A. Jones; and a great granddaughter Hannah M. Lewis.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 24, at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
