H. Chandler Davies' Obituary
H. Chandler Davies, Jr., “Chan” of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Beebe Medical Center, in Lewes, DE. He was born Sunday, April 9, 1922 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Henry Chandler and Florence Duling (Keesey) Davies.
Mr. Davies honorably served his country during World War II with the US Navy. Following his service he attended Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, DE where he studied business. He worked for the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington until 1959 when he opened a photo lab on Delaware Avenue in Wilmington called, “Chan Davies Photo Lab.” Mr. Davies had a passion for photography and in his later years editing music for video productions. He worked passionately at his photo lab with his family by his side until 1988 when he retired to the beach; he handed the reins to his daughter Diane and her husband Rick who continue to run and evolve the family business which today is known as Cornerstone Media Productions of Georgetown, DE, a benchmark in audio video productions. Of course, he never really stopped working for the family business, but he was finally able to enjoy his other passions, family and his devoted wife of 67 years, Luise. Chan and Luise proved to be inseparable as they shared unconditional for each other. As parents they were role models to all and Chan was the true patriarch of the family. Mr. Davies will be remembered as a gentle and kind man who loved to sneak a sweet treat when nobody was looking; a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and dear friend who will be missed by so many.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davies was preceded in death by his daughters, Donna L. Brown and Susan K. LaPorte, and his sister, Phyllis VanNewkirk. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Luise A. (Frickman) Davies; two sons: Robert C. Davies of Paris, IL and John V. Davies of Millsboro, DE; his daughter, Diane L. Greenberg and her husband Rick of Georgetown, DE; his sister, Barbara Maloy of St. Petersburg, FL; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:30 AM at St. George’s Episcopal Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road at Route 23, Harbeson, DE. Interment will be private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
