Gustave A. Yack's Obituary
Gustave A. Yack, age 86, of Bethany Beach, DE, passed away on Saturday, November 07, 2015 at his daughter's residence in Bethesda, MD. He was born in Kearny, NJ, on Saturday, December 15, 1928 son of the late Gustave and Anna (Malley) Yack.
Mr. Yack was a 1943 graduate of St. Stephen's Elementary School. He then attended Seton Hall Preparatory School, S. Orange, NJ graduating in 1947. Mr. Yack furthered his education attending Seton Hall University in S. Orange, NJ where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He also attended Seton Hall University earning a Master of Arts degree in Guidance Counseling and Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, FL where he earned his Doctorate in Education.
In November of 1952 Mr. Yack entered the U.S. Naval Officer Candative School in Newport, R.I. He was a Lt. and served with the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces in Little Creek, VA for three years. Mr. Yack was a Cost Accountant-Internal Auditor for the Charles Engelard Industries in Newark, NJ before entering the Jordan Seminary in Mennomenee, MI and Pope John XXIII Seminary in Boston, MA where he studied Latin.
Mr. Yack taught Latin at the Schylar Cofax Middle School in NJ and also with the Don Bosco High School in Ramsey, NJ. From there he moved to Chevy Chase, MD where he enjoyed a lengthy career as School Principal and Administrator with the Alexandria School System.
He married Marguerite Dorothy (Dettlinger) Yack in June 1967. They married for 42 years and resided / raised their 3 daughters in Chevy Chase, MD. Marguerite passed away May, 2011.
After retiring Mr. Yack resided during the winter seasons at the Pinebrook-Ironwood Community in Bradenton, FL. He enjoyed playing a round or two of golf each day. During the other seasons, he resided in Bethany Beach, DE.
He was an avid reader, loved swimming, playing tennis, watching movies and was a fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Nationals. In his younger years he was a huge fan of the New York Giants football and baseball teams before they moved to San Francisco.
Mr. Yack is survived by his 3 daughters and their husbands: Gretchen & Tom Carroll, Marybeth & Ryan Wollmuth, Maggie & Tim Hartung and 9 grandchildren, Sidney, Samantha, Lindsay, Lucas, Landon, Kathleen, Charlotte, Andrew, and Matthew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 10:00 AM, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE. Interment will follow services at 11:30 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro, DE.
