Grover "Pete" Green's Obituary
Born on January 4, 1938, in Lenoir, North Carolina, Grover Green, known to family and friends as Pete, was the son of George Green and Beedie (Chambers) Green. He was a graduate of Parksley High School in Parksley, Virginia.
Pete proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting in 1961 and retiring in 1991 as a Senior Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic after 30 years of honorable service. During his distinguished military career, including service as a Transport Flight Crew Plane Captain, Flight Engineer, and System Organizational Maintenance Technician, he received numerous awards and commendations, including: the Battle “E” Ribbon; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Navy Unit Commendation; Good Conduct Award (six awards); Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (four awards); Navy Expeditionary Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation (three awards); Air Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and Vietnam Service Medals (Campaigns XV, XVI, XVII, and XII).
Pete’s dedication to his family was as fierce and loyal as his devotion to his country. A private and independent man, he valued loyalty, integrity, and family above all else. Having experienced loss earlier in life, he later shared a devoted and loving partnership with his wife, Betty (Champion) Green, with whom he built a life grounded in love and mutual respect.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Green; his daughters, Bonnie (Green) Porter of Painter, Virginia, and Joyce Green of Parksley, Virginia; his son, David Green of Maine; Betty’s children and their families, and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him much joy. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Green.
Pete will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle presence, honorable service, and the love he showed through steadfast devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished.
