Gordy Owens Swift's Obituary
Gordy Owens Swift, age 81 of Georgetown, Delaware, passed away on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2022. He was born September 25, 1941, in Bishopville, Maryland, son of the late Gordy Swift and Emma Swift Walker.
Gordy was a man highly respected and loved by family, friends, and community. His work ethic, integrity, loyalty, and sweet nature is what made him so special. He was a God-fearing man. He loved his extended church family, gospel music, and we know he is with the Lord.
Gordy was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty, as well as his sister, Pauline Crowder, his stepbrother, Paul Walker, his son-in-law Grant Smith, his daughter-in-law, Missy Swift, and his fiancé, Carol Murray. He is survived by his children: Joe Gray (Gisela), Dawn Rogers (Brooke), Lisa Swift, Fran Swift, Bill Swift, and Norman Swift (Sherry). Gordy was adored by his 10 grandchildren: David Swift (Kim), Steven Gray (Faith), Nicole Hines, Samantha Welch (John), James Bradley (Heather), Wendy Evans (Ben), Amy Kuehl (Tyler), Emily Martinez (Alec), Josh Swift, and Jacob Swift. He was blessed with 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE 19947, where friends may call beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery, 25153 DuPont Boulevard, Georgetown, DE 19947.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Gordy's memory to Gumboro Wesleyan Church, 36842 Millsboro Hwy, Millsboro, DE 19966.
