Gloria S. Coker's Obituary
Gloria S. Coker, age 75, of Lewes, DE passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at her daughter’s residence with her family by her side. She was born October 19, 1935 in Harlingen, TX, daughter of the late Ubence and Emilia (Solis) Salinas.
Mrs. Coker initially worked for the Federal government at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. She then established and operated a moving company in Laurel, MD for 25 years. In 1992, she retired from Michael T. Rose Associates in Laurel. In 1999, Mrs. Coker and her husband Jack relocated to Delaware to enjoy their golden retirement years. Mrs. Coker, however, could not stay idle for long so she became a volunteer with Delaware Hospice, and a member of the Pocahontas Lodge of Delaware, the Long Neck Cheer Center and the local AARP Chapter. She was also a member of Grace of God Lutheran Church in Long Neck. She loved playing bingo and cards with her lady friends. Mrs. Coker was a loving and selfless wife, mother, grandmother and friend with a heart the size of Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Emilio Salinas, Luis Beltran Salinas and his wife Chris, and Guillermo Salinas. She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Tiller “Jack” Coker; a son Lee Olvera and his wife Kelly Ann Boston of Venice, CA; two daughters: Olga Lechert and her husband Albert of Crofton, MD and Diana Olvera of Houston, TX; two step-sons: Danny J. Coker of Washington, DC and Dale Coker and his wife Debbie of Harbeson, DE; four grandchildren: Ashley, Amanda, Jude and Lilly; three brothers: Frank Salinas and his wife Linda of Tampa, FL, Alfredo Salinas and his wife Mary of San Benito, TX and Gilbert Salinas and his wife Jo Goode-Salinas of Abilene, TX; one sister, Esmeralda Ramos and her husband Homer of Harlingen, TX and two sisters-in-law: Angelita Salinas of Chicago, IL and Amelia Salinas of Raymondville, TX.
The family would like to extend a special debt of gratitude to Seasons Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Mrs. Coker.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 2, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
