Gina Marie Washington, age 68 of Bridgeville, DE, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at TidalHealth Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford, DE. She was born on November 3, 1955, in Smyrna, TN, daughter of the late Oscar and Christine (Smith) Powell.
Mrs. Washington was a graduate of Roosevelt Senior High School, class of 1974. She furthered her education obtaining a bachelor’s degree from the College of Staten Island. On August 28, 1982, Mrs. Washington married the love of her life, Steven E. Washington in Staten Island, NY, and the two will spend the next 42 years creating countless memories and raising their family.
Mrs. Washington enjoyed a lifelong career working for such companies as Bristol Myers Squibb in NY as an administrative assistant, Senior Sales Director for MaryKay Cosmetics, and as a realtor for Coldwell Banker Realty (Bronze Star). Her hobbies were as varied as they were deep and were marked by simple but yet profound pleasures. She loved gardening and spent countless hours planting and nurturing blooms that turned her backyard into a sanctuary of beauty. Mrs. Washington had an infectious spirit that extended beyond her hobbies. She loved to travel, especially to the sun-kissed shores of tropical islands and she loved listening to R&B music.
In addition to her many interests, Mrs. Washington was a strategic board game aficionado, her evenings often spent in fierce but friendly competition with family and friends. Swimming was another of her passions; she relished the feeling of gliding through the water, an activity that brought her peace and joy. Her culinary talents were celebrated at every gathering and her BBQs were the highlight of summer. Mrs. Washington hosted these gatherings with a warmth and generosity that made everyone feel like family. Never one to stay idle, she was known for her energy and enthusiasm. Whether she was gracefully flowing through a yoga routine, or biking through the winding trails, she embraced every moment with a sense of adventure. Her passion for fishing and the outdoors was only matched by the love she had for her family and friends. Mrs. Washington's life was a mosaic of joy and connection. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all the lives she has touched.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Washington was predeceased by her brother, Oscar Powell, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband, Steven Washington, her daughter, Deanna Washington, her sisters, Elizabeth Rogers, Carol Hill, and Leda Sapp, and her nieces and nephews.
