Gilbert A. Voight's Obituary
Gilbert “Gill” Voight, age 76, passed away on March 3, 2025. Born in Port Huron, Michigan, Gill moved with his family to Newark when his father took a job with the Chrysler Parts Division. He graduated from Christiana High School in 1967 and began working at the Chrysler plant in Newark. Shortly after, Gill was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in Germany before being sent to Vietnam. Upon returning to the U.S., he resumed his career at Chrysler, working in various roles until his retirement in September 2001.
Gill was a passionate outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, boating, and clamming. Though he cherished his time outdoors, he wasn’t one to stay still for long. His love for boating was particularly strong, and over the years, he owned two pontoon boats and a Boston Whaler. His fondest memories included hunting in Michigan with his oldest brother during November and hunting in the Townsend and Smyrna areas. Gill was a proud member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and a long-time member of the American Legion Post 28 Guard.
In 2008, Gill took on a new role as a beach patrol officer for the Bethany Beach Police Department, where he worked to ensure compliance with no-smoking areas along the beach. Unfortunately, a severe stroke in September 2012 ended his time at the beach, but his sense of community and service never waned.
Gill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Ross Voight and Tessie Pearl (Dolbear) Voight; his brothers, Charles Randall Voight of Bear, Delaware, and William Voight, his wife, Donna; and their son, Brian, of Port Huron, Michigan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betsy Baylis Voight; daughter Kara Willis (Erin) of Centerville; son Jackson Snyder; daughter Roxanne Hunter (Eric); brother Douglas Voight (Cindy); grandson Eric "Rock" and his wife Ana, and their daughter Mia Rose; grandsons Evin, Ethan, and Elias; as well as sisters-in-law Kathy Baylis and Carol Voight; nieces Jennifer (Jimmy) Long, Kimberly (Ryan) King, Andrea (Joshua) Wallace, and Emily (Matthew) Verbeke; nephew Randy Voight; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel in Lewes, 16961 Kings Highway, followed by a 11:00 AM Celebration of Life at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 28, where he was a dedicated member for many years.
Gill’s legacy of service, love for the outdoors, and commitment to family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
