The loving matriarch of our close-knit family, Gertrude passed away on October 20, 2019. She was born on February 15, 1931 in Astoria, Queens to George and Catherine Frenz. Soon after, the family moved to Oradell, NJ. Gertrude attended Dwight Morrow High School and subsequently earned her degree from the prestigious Katherine Gibbs School in Manhattan. She then began a stellar career as an executive secretary, proudly serving tenures at Pine Rest Nursing Home, Paramus NJ and Academy of the Holy Angels, Demarest, NJ where she found professional success and enduring and treasured friendships.
Married to John on January 13, 1951, they spent 65 years together in love and friendship. John and Gertrude moved to Lewes, DE in 1994 with Gertrude’s mother Catherine and immediately felt at home among their neighbors. Gertrude cared lovingly for Catherine until her passing in 2002.
Always a caregiver, Gertrude tirelessly gave of herself to her children, grandchildren and friends. Gertrude was an avid painter, a voracious reader and had a remarkable talent for the New York Times crossword puzzle.
To her children she was not only a mother, she was also mentor, friend, teacher, loyal advocate, advisor and arbiter of good taste. They are forever indebted to her as an exceptional model of strength and integrity. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.
